Your First Visit To Shin Orthodontics
Step 1 - The First Visit
We will examine your teeth and bite relationship and discuss possible treatment options. Once a recommendation is made that an orthodontic treatment is needed, we will arrange a follow-up visit where the necessary orthodontic records will be taken. Most people already have a general dentist who would have approved for us to start the treatment.
If you haven’t had a dental check-up within the previous 6 months, we will ask you to get a dental check-up prior to commencing orthodontic treatment.
Step 2 - Initial Records Visit (within 1 week)
In order to accurately diagnose and treatment plan, we will take radiographs of the teeth and jaw structures, photographs of your facial appearance and your teeth. A set of alginate dental impressions will also be taken.
Step 3 - Case Presentation Visit (within 2 weeks)
Once all the information has been gathered from the Initial Records Visit, we will sit down with you to discuss the treatment options and our recommendations. We will also explain the financial aspects of the treatment and we will complete the Informed Consent and the Financial Contract. If banding is required, we will place separators (or spacers) at this appointment.
Step 4 - Banding Visit (within 1 week)
If separators (or spacers) were placed previously, they will be removed at this appointment and bands will be placed.
Step 5 - Bonding Visit (within 1-2 weeks)
Brackets are placed on teeth at this visit. If an appliance is placed first, e.g. palatal expander or Herbst, the brackets will be placed on after a few months.
Step 6 - Adjustment Visits (Monthly)
During this time, we will see you once a month for ongoing orthodontic adjustments. Also we will recommend you to see your general dentist every 3 to 6 months for on-going maintenance. If any dental extractions are recommended as part of your treatment, your orthodontist will prescribe the necessary teeth extractions and refer you to either your general dentist or to an oral surgeon.
Step 7 - Debanding Visit (End of Treatment)
Once your treatment is completed, we will make sure that you are happy with the result and complete the Statement of Satisfaction before we remove the braces. Final Records will also be taken at this time.
A set of dental impressions will be taken to fabricate your retainers and you will be asked to return the same day for the delivery of the retainers.
Step 8 - Retention Visits (Up to 12 months)
Once you are in your retainers and have no problem wearing them, we will see you a few more times over the next 12 months. We will ask if you are wearing your retainers according to our instructions. If you lose your retainers or they break, please call us as soon as possible.
You are provided with one set of upper and lower retainers at the end of the treatment. If you need replacement retainers, please ask us for the price.
