What to Expect at the Initial Orthodontic Consultation

Rest assured, there is no charge for your orthodontic consultation at Shin Orthodontics. Your first visit will let you gather information and get to know our doctors, staff, and office before considering treatment.

The initial consultation should be considered a fact finding mission – for both you and us. Patients should use this time to get to know our practice, find out what their orthodontic treatment might entail, learn about treatment options such as braces or Invisalign, and discuss the cost of treatment, insurance benefits, etc.

For Drs. Shin, it provides the opportunity to better understand a patient’s orthodontic issue and smile goals, and then craft a treatment plan that will deliver the patients ideal smile:

Treatment that’s always focused on our patient’s individual needs.

Consultation

Everyone’s teeth and jaw are unique and deserve personal attention. We will take complimentary photographs of your face and teeth. At times, complimentary X-rays are needed to aid assessment as well as a digital dental impressions.

Drs Shin will examine your teeth and bite relationship. They will take the time to discuss in as much detail as you need whether treatment is necessary and if so, the duration, benefits, and costs of orthodontic care.

Placement

After your consultation, the second visit to our practice often involves the placement of brackets or delivery of an orthodontic appliance. Patients receive instructions about at-home care and are given the tools and support needed for successful treatment.

Adjustments

During this time, we see most patients every 6-10 weeks for ongoing orthodontic adjustments and will change or adjust the wires or appliances to keep the movement of your teeth headed in the right direction.

Of course, at any stage before/during/after an appointment, you are welcome to contact us and discuss any questions or concerns you may have.
